Galaxy Tab S8: Samsung surprises with giant tablet

With the Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+ and the Tab S8 Ultra, Samsung has presented three tablets that have the potential to land very high in the CHIP leaderboard - and thus become dangerous to the iPad. We have the three Android tablets in comparison and an initial assessment. In the video you can also see the facts about the Galaxy S22.

Now it's out: In addition to the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung is also updating its tablet series - and also presents three models here. With the Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8+, Samsung is more or less operating the already expected facelift.

The Galaxy Tab S8 comes with an 11-inch LC display that resolves with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The Tab S8+, on the other hand, has a 12.4-inch sAMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,752 pixels. In addition, all models come with an S Pen (Bluetooth), keyboard cases are optional. Samsung positions the two models as direct Android competition to Apple's iPad Pro models.

With the Tab S8 Ultra, however, the South Koreans are launching a real giant tablet on the market: The sAMOLED display measures a proud 14.6 inches, the resolution is 2,960 x 1,848 pixels (WQXGA+). In combination with an optionally available keyboard cover, the tablet could replace the notebook for one or the other user - provided that the Android ecosystem is enough here. However, the weight is not far from an Ultrabook: A whopping 726 grams should bring the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra on the scales. Together with the keyboard, you should therefore easily exceed one kilogram.

Technically, the devices, apart from the display, are very similar: In all models is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 as well as USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and ANT+. Optionally, all tablets are also available with 5G.

There are minimal differences in the memory equipment, because the two smaller tablets offer 8 and 12 GByte, the large Ultra model 12 and 16 GByte. For the internal memory you can choose between 128 and 256 GByte, with the Ultra there is also a version with 512 GByte. The memory of all variants can be expanded via microSD card.

For the main camera, Samsung relies on a dual cam (13 MPixel + 6 MPixel with ultra-wide-angle lens) for all Tab S8 versions. With the front camera, on the other hand, only the 12 MPixel ultra-wide-angle camera is identical in all variants. The Tab S8 Ultra also gets a standard camera with 12 MPixel.

The front camera (ultra-wide angle) should also be able to detect people and automatically focus on the speaker. According to Samsung, three microphones reduce background noise so that the people talking can be understood more clearly.

In the following table, we show you the most important technical data of the three Galaxy Tab S8 models in a direct comparison. A first assessment of the devices can be found directly below.
