As always, there is a guide for the best Bitcoin mining hardware. Without further ado, let's get started!

What is Bitcoin Mining?

The role of Bitcoin mining is to verify that transactions on the network follow the rules. To do this, complex computer units are used to check transactions and broadcast them to other computer systems around the world. These computer system operators are rewarded for their efforts. These rewards come from fees paid per transaction and mining fees set by the network itself.

To stop people from cheating on the network, a system known as "proof of work" is used. Proof of work is required before a group (block) of transactions is added to the blockchain. When computers do proof-of-work, what they do is try to guess long sequences of numbers and letters. This string is known as a hash.

Only the computer that guesses the hash correctly can add the block to the chain. Proof of work requires computational power and the process isn't fast or cheap. To defraud the network would require so much investment that it would not be financially viable for someone to try and change the blockchain. This is the main security feature of the Bitcoin (and other cryptocurrency) network.

Bitcoin mining used to be done by a CPU (central processing unit) like those found on your home computer system. However, as more units started to mine the network, the expected hash difficulty increased. This made people turn to higher powered processors like GPUs (graphics processing units). This GPU is usually found in high-end gaming PCs.

Today, hashes are very difficult to crack and there are so many miners trying to solve them that only specialist computer systems can solve them. This unit uses an application-specific integrated circuit chip - or ASIC for short. That's the point of this article!

Mining Hardware Depends On Your Circumstances

Even though Bitcoin miners are now restricted from choosing from a variety of ASICs to mine Bitcoin, there are still many options. Choosing one will depend on the circumstances of each miner. Some miners want a single unit that can work in their spare bedroom. Others will want some affordable ASICs to start mining for the first time. Lastly, there are some people who want to fill their arsenal with the best Bitcoin mining hardware available.

There are many things to consider when choosing Bitcoin mining hardware. It is important to rate each unit based on hashing power, electricity consumption, ambient temperature, and initial purchase cost.

There are also ideological reasons to choose one manufacturer over another. It is related to decentralization and I will touch on some of the issues that surround it in this article later.

Best Mining Hardware

Finally, I can get to the real topic of this article - Bitcoin mining hardware. I've looked at Bitcoin mining rigs from some of the biggest and most well-known manufacturers on the planet to make this list.

I've also tried to categorize the different devices in terms of the apps they are best suited for. I'll give my recommendations for Bitcoin mining rigs to:

People on a budget.

People who want to mine at home.

Those who have never mined Bitcoin before.

People who want to spend the most money on the most powerful Bitcoin mining hardware.

Several alternative options for professional miners who can't find enough DragonMint T1 for their operation.

Best Bitcoin Mining Hardware on a Budget - Antminer T9 +

For Bitcoin miners on a budget, one of the best Bitcoin mining rigs is the Antminer T9 +. It can be fetched a lot cheaper than most of the other devices on this list. However, don't let the price tag fool you - it's still a decent machine.

As well as being great for those concerned with the price of their mining unit, the Antminer T9 + is ideal when space is a concern. This is due to its compact design features. This makes it great for cramming multiple units onto a mining rig farm. If this is how you use an ASIC miner, you will be very pleased with the Antminer T9 + temperature reducing feature. You'll also save a lot of money on extraction equipment.

In terms of the hardware this unit uses, the Antminer T9 + has the BM1387 162 Bitmain chip. This allows it to generate a brilliant hash rate of 10.5 TH / s while only pulling 1332W off the wall.

Apart from being a great player, the Antminer T9 + also has a user interface that is easy to understand. It is used to configure various settings and make improvements to the firmware when a new release comes from Bitmain.

Priced between $ 550 and $ 600 per Bitcoin mining rig, the Antminer T9 + is certainly the most affordable unit on our list. You can take it from here.

Unfortunately, like any Bitcoin mining machine, the power supply is sold separately.

Best for Beginners - Avalon6

The next piece of Bitcoin mining hardware that I'm going to look at is a tool for Bitcoin mining beginners. The maker of the Avalon6 Bitcoin mining rig, Canaan Creative, built it with simplicity.

The Avalon6 Bitcoin miner is one of the easiest ASIC units to set up. Neither the advanced procedures nor the basics are simple, and this makes this device great for beginners. Unfortunately, this is not the most profitable unit. From 1050W it took off, only managed to produce 3.5 TH / s.

While that won't impress serious Bitcoin miners, your ease in setting up this kit, along with an affordable price tag will make it a great unit for those looking to get started in the world of Bitcoin mining.

Unfortunately, like most of our units in this guide for Bitcoin mining hardware, the Avalon6 doesn't come with a power supply of its own. These are sold separately.

There is an option to purchase the unit itself directly from Canaan Creative, but this is only for bulk orders. Luckily, you can pick them up in smaller order sizes for around $ 650 each from here.

Running the Avalon6 (or Any Bitcoin Mining Machine) Not for Profit?

Apart from being great for beginners, the Avalon6 is great hardware for those who want to mine Bitcoin without making a profit. This may sound strange at first, but there are very good reasons why people want to mine Bitcoin without making a profit.

Simply put, the more mining units on a cryptocurrency network, the safer the network will be. Bitcoin's robustness stems from decentralization. There are many passionate enthusiasts and developers around the world who cannot or are unwilling to mine Bitcoin for profit. There are many reasons why this could happen. This includes but is not limited to the following:

Don't have areas in your home that you want to dedicate to running multiple mining units.

Living in very hot places means running equipment will generate unbearable heat.

Electricity has become too expensive to profit from running Bitcoin mining rigs.

You're not home often enough to bother setting up a Bitcoin mining rig farm which, however, can pose a fire hazard.

The Avalon6 makes a good unit to run in the office or at home that may lose money but serves a very altruistic purpose - securing the network. For many developers, the cost of running their mining rigs is a small price to pay for complete financial freedom from banks and other institutions that have absolute control over the creation and supply of money.

Best for Home Use - Antminer R4

Like the Avalon6, the next pick on our list of the best Bitcoin mining rigs is great for small applications where space is an issue. This was because he walked very slowly. You can even make him do all the important network security tasks in the same room you sleep in!

Like their T9 + unit, the R4 uses Bitmain's BM1387 chip. It uses 126 of them to produce a very competitive 0.098 J / GHs. If you are not sure what that means, read it as "very efficient"!

The main selling point of the Antminer R4 is its quiet mining operation. Bitmain has achieved this by redesigning its entire fan base. The team was inspired by the silent air conditioning unit. Borrowing design features, they are capable of making fans that are just as effective as traditional ones but produce less than half the noise. They also equip the R4 with an automatic controller. This ensures that the fan never makes more noise than necessary.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Antminer R4 is that it is very expensive. The price seems to vary a lot depending on where you pick it up. Some sites advertise $ 1,000 but don't have a link to view it at this price. The only site selling the unit I can find is a European website called AntMiner Distribution Europe BV. They listed it for 1,500 euros, or $ 1,700.

Problems with Bitmain?

Of course, like all Antminer units, the R4 was built by Chinese Bitcoin mining giant Bitmain. Bitmain is a controversial company. In fact, in 2017, they were accused of delaying an important SegWit upgrade to the Bitcoin network.

Many accused them of doing this so that they could benefit from the extra high costs that were required at the time. For this reason, some Bitcoin miners refuse to use Bitmain products. However, if you're not into politics, they make some amazing Bitcoin mining units!

Best if Money Isn't a Problem - DragonMint T1

We now come to the best mining unit on the market today. The DragonMint T1 has been created by Halong Mining, a new company that specializes in ASIC miners. Halong claims to have spent over $ 30 million developing this beast!

DragonMint T1 uses a sophisticated chip design (DM8575). This makes it the first ASIC capable of achieving an incredible 16 TH / s hash rate.

What's more, it manages to achieve this excellent hash rate while remaining efficient in terms of energy consumption. This unit consumes only 0.075 J / GH. That's about 1480W of power draw. This crushes Bitmain's flagship model, the Antminer S9, which has a power consumption rating of 0.098J / GH.

Cooling of the DragonMint T1 is handled by two nine-blade variable fans. It manages to keep the ambient temperature averaging only 25 degrees.

Again, like most Bitcoin mining rigs, the DragonMint T1 is not equipped with a power supply. The company recommends using the DragonMint 1600W.

Unfortunately, as a monster-like unit, the DragonMint T1 is in high demand. This means you may have to join a waiting list to get one! When you finally get the chance to buy it, you may be a little overwhelmed by the price. You're looking for a starting price of $ 2,729 for the unit itself. An authorized power supply will give you an additional $ 115.

If you decide to buy a DragonMint unit, you are also supporting decentralized mining by giving the custom to non-Bitmain companies. For some, this can also be a deal breaker!

If all that wasn't enough to convince you of DragonMint's abilities, there's also awesome dragon graphics on the side!

Antminer S9 - Next Best Thing for DragonMint T1

As the DragonMint T1 was so popular, manufacturers struggled to keep up with their demands. For that reason, I decided to include some other Bitcoin mining hardware that is almost as good.

If you are a serious miner and can't use DragonMint T1, don't worry. A unit like the Antminer S9 will produce almost the same hashing power.

Like the other Antminer units I have included in this guide, the S9 is equipped with Bitmain's BM1389 chip. However, unlike the others, this monster had 189 tails. At the time it was created, this made it the highest hashing unit on the planet. While it can no longer claim to be the best in terms of hash rate, at 14 TH / s, it's close to the DragonMint T1.

The Antminer S9 cools itself using a special heat sink. It is constructed using high grade aluminum alloy. It also uses two high speed fans on either end of the device. This ensures that hot air is quickly removed and replaced.

Being a Bitcoin mining rig with a high hashing rate, you would think building one would be a nightmare. However, that was not the case. The Antminer S9 has the same user-friendly interface that most of the Bitmain miners use. This lets you quickly adjust settings and upgrade the firmware as needed.

Like the DragonMint T1, the best Antminer units on the market don't come cheap. You are each looking for around $ 2,700- $ 3,000. Again, like most Bitcoin ASIC mining hardware, the power supply is sold separately. It will cost you $ 100- $ 150. Obviously, this is not for the Bitcoin hobbyist miner!

Best if you avoided Bitmain and Can't Get DragonMint - PangolinMiner M3X

Finally, given the controversy Bitmain has produced Bitcoin mining hardware, I think it's best to include a DragonMint alternative that wasn't made by them.

For many, Pangolin units will represent a good balance between value and hashing power. It is capable of running between 12 and 13 TH / s. Even though this was only three-quarters of the strength of DragonMint's flagship model, it could still be respected.

This power becomes even more pronounced when you consider the pangolin initial purchase price. It is currently on sale on the company's official website for just $ 850.Compare this to the $ 2,700 charged for the DragonMint Antminer S9 and you can immediately see the appeal of the Pangolin M3X.

Right now, that might sound too good to be true. Just wait to think twice. There are a few drawbacks!

First, the Pangolin is probably the loudest unit I have discussed in this article. This means that it is not suitable for home use.

All that noise is possible due to the amount of power required to run the Pangolin M3X. At 2100W, this is the most power hungry unit I've covered in this guide for Bitcoin mining hardware. That means that any savings you might make on the upfront purchase price will be lost over time as utility bills start to roll in.

However, those who live in places with cheap electricity may like Pangolins. Alternatively, if you are using a non-electric one, and you do not live in place, Pangolins will represent the best choice for Bitcoin mining hardware.

Mining Hardware Comparison Table

Below, I've included a comparison table of six Bitcoin mining hardware that I cover in this guide. This will help you decide which will be the best unit for your mining operation.

Prices for Company Energy Consumption Levels
